My Nightly Routine

The older I get, the more I appreciate getting ready for bed. There was a time in my life when I would just go to bed with makeup on, not moisturized or anything. Idk who that girl is anymore. It now takes me between 10-30 minutes. NO JOKE. Tom wants to kill me every night, and most of the time he is already asleep by the time I get into bed.

  • First, I am a clean freak so I always clean up after dinner, do all dishes, throw out trash, remove clutter from counters, and kitchen table, etc. Then, I will dim the lights in the house and light a few candles (this is the best candle ever). I love this feeling - the house feels relaxed and you start winding down.

  • After this, me and Tom usually turn on whatever show we are watching and I occasionally make sleepy time tea ( + add a few drops of honey).

  • When it’s time for bed, I fill up my Hydroflask with water and keep it on my nightstand. I try and finish it by the time I wake up - I get into bed, take some sips if I wake up thirsty (I’m a mouth breather), and chug some when I wake up.

  • If I Shower:

  • If I don’t shower, the first thing I do is brush my teeth and wash my face. I either use a makeup remover wipe or just plain Dove soap. Nothing fancy here for removing makeup. If I have a lot of eye makeup on, I will sometimes use this remover from Neutrogena.

  • Once a week, I use a nose pore strip to remove all blackheads. I do this after I wash my face and before any creams.

  • After washing my face, I put on my night cream: Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Night. I have tested a lot of night creams, and this stuff is the best. It is pricey, but it lasts a long time (about 6 months I would say). I wake up with skin so soft and silky (and my skin has truly changed after using this for months). Once in a while, I will use the Summer Fridays Jetlag Mask. If I am getting super dry skin, which is always around winter, I use this oil (it is the best face oil I have ever used).

  • Next, I put this Rosebud Salve on my lips. This is pricier than your average chapstick, but this little tin lasts forever. And you will wake up the softest lips ever. When I use normal chapstick, I wake up with dry lips, but this stuff never lets me down.

  • Next, I fluff up my pillows and down comfortable and spritz pillow spray all over my bed (this is Tom’s least favorite part because I always accidentally spray him LOL).

  • After I sit down in bed, I put this lotion on my hands + arms + neck + chest. It smells amazing and will make you feel very moisturized.

  • I don’t do this every night, but about once a week I will rub my feet in coconut oil lotion and put socks on. (Don’t take the socks off until you wake up - this is key for keeping them soft and silky throughout the night because the lotion locks it in).

  • I struggle with falling asleep after getting into bed because I am a night owl, so once in a while I take these Olly Restful Sleep gummies.

  • Then…. I sleep! :)

I know, this is crazy, right? But it has helped tremendously and I have never had as good of skin in my life as I do right now. There is also no better and cozier feeling than getting into bed all clean + moisturized. It seems like a lot, but once you get into a routine it gets easier, and it gets faster. I am a firm believer in self care and giving your body the TLC it deserves. Hopefully showing you my routine encouraged you to try some new products or start a routine of your own! Sleep tight y’all.
